Who am I?

Welcome, to what will be an analysis of my design journey.

It would be best to begin roughly around college, where my decent into the design world arguably begun.

During college I studied media, originally a questionable life choice turned successful approach to life. Initially design wasn’t a field I wanted to extend into, instead, I wanted to expand into marketing, an aspect of business that really intrigued me, showing promise for expansive job opportunities, and a thriving career path…

However, I got the design bug and managed to prove more successful in my media studies over business, probably because of how open the field is. I found I preferred creating content over creating statistics graphs and SWOT analysis’, which inevitably drew me to my decision to combine the only aspect of business I enjoyed, marketing, with design. Taking on a marketing and design joint bachelors. God knows how but somewhere down the road my university came to the conclusion that such a degree was worthy of being classified as a science over an art, providing me with slightly more bragging rights than just my design degree peers.

My media degree drove me to achieving acceptance to such a degree, on top of a personal project conducted with fellow media students interviewing a leader in the marketing industry. I’ll admit on here, my acceptance was questionable however thanks to the global pandemic ruining a majority of education marking across the UK, I can safely say I somehow slipped through the cracks.

Regardless of my final university degree choice, those SWOT analysis’ and annoying statistics followed me for 3 long years of slogging through marketing classes. Eventually resulting in me enjoying creating them, so I guess that proves to be a bonus from my design centric focus I held throughout.

My most profound enjoyment hailed from my design classes, with intellectually stimulating briefs and tutorials galore, resulting in a solid foundation for my design capacity.

Throughout the degree I’ve dabbled in differing aspects of design, ranging from User experience/User interface design for mobile and desktop applications and websites, Posters, social media and the whole variety of advertising material. Throughout said degree I’ve experienced a plethora of design programs, some of which include:

  • The classic Adobe trio
    • Photoshop
    • InDesign
    • Illustrator
  • Adobe Premier Pro
  • Adobe Dimensions
  • Adobe XD
  • Figma
  • Blender
  • Unreal Engine 5
  • Fusion 360
  • Sketchup

Learning each program from scratch was hard, however, with dedication, pressing deadlines, and a need to fill the hours in my days with productivity, I stuck with each respectively, resulting in hundreds of hours dedicated amongst them. Will I utilise every one of these programs until the ends of time?

Probably not.

However playing around with each, with the benefit of them being paid for by my university, helped me to establish a career goal and a greater understanding of where my strengths and weaknesses lie. One such weakness comes from 3D with software’s like Blender. Being a death-trap to the ADHD and procrastination kings and queens alike, I too struggle with the complexities of the software. So why not make a blog focusing on the change in my skills over time?

Design, as a consequence of my degree granting me the opportunity to learn, became a deep, inset part of my life, resulting in this. My blog. Following me through my journey as a designer expanding their knowledge of all these programs and more, battling the rise of Ai, severe procrastination and working life on the side.

Design can be difficult, but the end result is always rewarding.

There will always be times where I won’t be pleased with the work I produce but there will also be those projects that outshine those bad days for years to come and it is those day and those projects I look forward to sharing with you.

Follow me as I expand my knowledge, my skills and my appreciation for design. Providing informative content and guidance around what I know about design.

Hopefully we can learn a thing or two together.
